Archery for children with disabilities “Have a Go” as part of Share the Care Week.
The Club was asked by Gloucestershire County Council if we could run a have a go session for some disabled children as part of ‘Share the CareWeek’, of course we could !!, and whats more in addition to the shooting and refreshments a “Mystery Star Guest” would be coming along.
On cold and blustery afternoon five disabled youngsters with their carers came to Oakleaf Field. The “mystery guest” caused quite a stir amongst all those present –
Mel Clarke the Paralympics Silver Medallist came along complete with her Silver Medal and Olympic Torch, All of the youngsters achieved shooting success, the warmth and delight on their faces as they achieved “good shots” and interacted with Mel was something to behold, a number of the youngsters insisted that they should look after Mel’s medal should she “not need it any more” !!!!!
A very successful afternoon, everyone enjoyed themselves, I hope that the youngsters felt proud of their successes, the Club Coaches certainly got a lot out of working with them.
Our thanks must go to Mel, “What a Star” !!!
