The Easter Bunny Charity Tournament
Cheltenham Archers have been hosting their Easter Bunny Charity Tournament for many years, records dating back to at least to 2006. The tournament typically features a “Nationals” Round with 72 arrows and five-zone scoring, allowing for a maximum score of 648. Over the past decade, we have supported various charities, including Severn Freewheelers, Gloucester Kidney Association, Linc, and more recently Suicide crisis.
Despite interruptions due to COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021, the event has remained a staple, drawing a loyal following from both club members and archery clubs nationwide. Notable participants include Paul Honour, who has dominated the Men’s Compound class for six consecutive years, with a best score of 644 in 2022 and Cheltenham Archer Lorna Stevens, a five-time winner in the Ladies’ Recurve category who set a new UK record in 2023 of 616.
The tournament is inclusive, welcoming juniors and even providing a special round for very young and inexperienced participants. Despite challenging weather conditions, including wind, rain, and even snow, the event has always been completed as scheduled. Big thanks to Edward Kain for providing information for this piece and we hope for the tournament’s continuation for many more years to come.
